Knauf Insulation customers in Australia have taken delivery of the first shipment of high quality Glass Mineral Wool solutions from our new €120 million state-of-the-art site in Johor Bahru in Malaysia.

Our Group Chief Operating Officer, David Ducarme, said: “In July 2018 we vowed to bring our products closer than ever to our customers across the Asia Pacific region and I am proud to say we have now delivered on that promise.

Johor Bahru is an extraordinary achievement of commitment from Knauf Insulation colleagues from around the world who came together to work with local teams in unprecedented pandemic circumstances — setting a gold standard in safety — to ensure the highest quality solutions are now available to customers.”

Competitive advantage

The first customer to receive the plant’s new-look Earthwool solutions was the Energy Efficiency Group, whose shipment is now safely stored in its Perth warehouse in Western Australia (pictured right).

Managing Director Devin Hall described the close proximity of the plant as a major competitive advantage.

“Halving product turnaround time from 10 to 12 weeks to four to six weeks is going to be a game changer for our business. With shorter lead times, we won’t need to have as much stock on hand and we can be more responsive when work comes at any given period,” he said.

In addition, the products are technologically advanced with new improved clean facing on both sides, said Devin, providing a neater product that not only looks good but also ensures a better quality of installation.

Outstanding sustainability

Our new solutions — and the new plant — also enjoy outstanding sustainable credentials. Johor Bahru features some of the most efficient technology available on the market today, and our wide range of solutions are produced from up to 80% post-consumer recycled glass using our revolutionary bio-based ECOSE Technology® binder. In addition, emissions from shipping and transporting products to their final destination are offset thanks to our unique compression packaging, which allows us to deliver a high volume of products per shipment.

The entire product range has also been customised to meet the specific requirements of residential and non-residential markets in the region in addition to solutions for HVAC systems and domestic appliances such as ovens, cars and fridges.

Demand is soaring

Stuart Dunbar Knauf Insulation’s Managing Director for Asia Pacific

Stuart Dunbar, Knauf Insulation’s Managing Director for Asia Pacific, said: “Demand for insulation products that offer warranted quality, sustainability and ease of handling is soaring across the region due to increasing energy costs and more stringent building regulations in countries such as Australia, New Zealand, Singapore, Japan and Korea.”

The first shipment from Johor Bahru is also a celebration of Knauf Insulation’s commitment to Put People First and a landmark achievement for international collaboration within the company.

Plant Manager Erkan Üçok said: “Day after day our international and local teams working on the ground have demonstrated outstanding levels of commitment and safety in extraordinary circumstances. They are living examples of our Knauf Insulation values — challenge.create.care.”
