Knauf Insulation calls for tougher energy targets at EU Informal Energy Council in Malta

Valletta, 18 May 2017: Knauf Insulation has urged European Energy Ministers to increase ambition on energy efficiency and green buildings at the EU Informal Energy Council in Malta today. 

Energy efficiency was high on the agenda at the meeting as EU ministers discussed the European Commission’s proposals for a ‘Clean Energy for All Europeans’ package, including increasing the ambition of the EU’s energy efficiency target to 2030 and measures to stimulate building renovation.

At the meeting, some of Europe’s leading businesses from the European Alliance to Save Energy were invited to present new green innovations to Energy Ministers from over 40 countries. The Vice President of the European Commission in charge of the Energy Union, Maroš Šefčovič and Commissioner responsible for Climate Action and Energy, Miguel Arias Cañete also participated.

Presenting Knauf Insulation's innovations to Ministers Jure Šumi, Business Development Director for Green Solutions said: “As a company that believes at its core in the need to save energy and sustainability, it’s critical to work hard to help our customers and partners deliver this change in reality. This is why are developing new solutions; our Urbanscape solutions for green roofs and urban landscaping is just one example where we are helping deliver improved energy as well as other benefits including noise reduction, improved storm water management and improved air quality in cities”.

Knauf Insulation has pioneered green roof, walls and urban landscaping solutions since the launch of its Urbanscape Green Solutions System range in 2014 from its R&D facility in Skjofa Loka in Slovenia.

“There is a potentially enormous market in Europe for these innovations and it is a really exciting space to be in. But this is not enough. Businesses look to the regulatory context as the main driver for future market development - which is why having ambitious European targets is important”, Šumi added.
