What do you think contributes to leadership success?

A good leader is empathetic, trustworthy, consistent, an effective communicator, delegates and is committed. In other words: they treat people with respect, they have a high level of integrity and honesty; they keep promises and set clear expectations from the beginning; they are good listeners; lead people to develop, learn and take responsibility and are committed to business, employees and partners.

What qualities do you admire in Knauf Insulation leaders?

Their commitment, willingness to listen and accept new ideas, and their recognition of good, quality work. I’ve been lucky to be surrounded by great people and great leaders who have been my source of inspiration and supported my development. They have a human approach, treating all team members equally and put their trust in them. They lead by example and harness the creative energy of their colleagues. The qualities I have learnt from them I am actively applying myself.

What advice would you share with a new colleague to help them thrive at Knauf Insulation?

Ask questions and learn. Learning is a journey, so give yourself the privilege as a newcomer to ask questions to learn and understand the business better, learn about processes or KPIs. Be curious, be proactive, do not wait for someone to tell you everything you need to know. You need to show interest and you have to be eager to learn.

What do you see as your greatest achievement at Knauf Insulation and why?

In 2018, I got the opportunity to take a position as Chief Financial Officer for the Eastern Europe region for a limited period of time. Accepting the new role I needed to move from Serbia to the Czech Republic with my family. The transition period was very short, less than two months.

I had to split my activities between the company in Serbia, reorganising the finance team and providing the right training to the right people and the challenging tasks of my new role. With the full support of the team and management, I was able to focus on the new challenges, fulfilling the new role activities with full autonomy.

Which leadership quote resonates with you and why?

John Quincy Adams, the sixth US President:
“If your actions inspire others to dream more, learn more, do more and become more, you are a leader.”

Leadership is about inspiring the team to be motivated and creating a sense of vision.
